All parents are invited to join us for our first PTSA meeting of the school year on Wednesday, Sept. 27th at 7:30pm in the library. Following a Counselor's Presentation on 4-year Colleges in the theater (6:30-7:30pm), come upstairs to the library to connect with other LW parents and ask all your questions about student life and activities, both academic and social! LWHS PTSA meetings occur every other month throughout the year (Nov. 15, Jan. 17, March 21 and May 23 - typically starting at 7pm), so mark your calendars and plan to come connect with other parents!
Our first 'Coffee with Christina' will take place at 9am on Wed, Oct 4th, in the Career and Counseling Center which is adjacent to the Commons on the first floor. Come join other LW parents for a time to connect with each other and participate in Q&A with Principal Christina Thomas. These coffees last about an hour, but you are free to come late or leave early as your schedule requires. Future Coffees are planned for Dec. 6, Feb. 1, and April 11.
Does your student enjoy visual arts, music composition, photography, literature, film production or dance choreography? Is a National Award Winning entry "within reach" for a creative and talented LWHS student?
These are the six categories where they can showcase their talents in the Reflections arts competition, a National PTA program. There is also a Special Artist Division (for students with disabilities).
All grades and abilities are encouraged to participate. The entry form and rules are on the PTSA website Programs page by selecting "Reflections". Turn in your entry to the LWHS office. Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, November 1st at 2:30pm. Questions? Contact Reflections Chair, Pam Hay.
With 400 members so far, we're nearly two thirds of the way to our goal of 625 members this year!
Parents and staff, we hope that you'll continue our organization's strong membership. Our students benefit from a strong PTSA. When you join the LWHS PTSA, YOU:
Show commitment to our school community - a big motivator to staff, students and volunteers
Join the largest child advocacy organization in the state: The WA State PTA (and National PTA too)
Get to vote on key decisions that affect the PTSA budget, programs, grants, scholarships etc.
You can join online and pay by credit card or pick up a membership form in the office and pay by check. Thank you for your support, we really appreciate it.
It was great seeing many of you at Curriculum Night and we appreciate so much the donations that have come in and the many new members to the LWHS PTSA! If you have not had a chance to join the PTSA or donate to our Pass the Pouch fundraiser that supports PTSA programming, please take a moment and do so now. Anyone who joins and/or donates receives a window cling as a small thank you for your support!
Come connect with our school community and other parents! Our PTSA is involved in building our Kang community in many ways, and we need parents like you to make it all happen. College Application Workshop launches today! Please encourage your senior to take advantage of trained volunteers who are ready to help them with their application essays and new this year: Admission Interview Practice!
We meet in the College and Career Center on Wednesdays after school (12:40) and in the Bistro (outside the library) during ROO time (9:31) on Thursdays. We are pleased to provide this program at no cost to students. They should bring their essays and appetite (lunch and snacks provided!) and we look forward to seeing them there!
High School and Beyond Day PSAT Registration is NOW OPEN
Wednesday, October 11th is Lake Washington High School's annual High School and Beyond Day.
During High School and Beyond Day, Freshmen and Seniors will participate in a series of graduation-required workshops, Sophomores will take the PSAT (free of charge), and Juniors will have the option to take the PSAT for a fee of $16 or participate in the ASVAB Career Exploration Program, which is free of charge. Seniors may also opt to take the PSAT, however, the results will not satisfy the college admission requirement.
This year, Lake Washington High School will also offer the PSAT to Seniors who are interested in taking the Preliminary, or practice test for the National SAT College Entrance Exam as an alternative to the graduation-required workshops.
Please note: the PSAT for 11th and 12th graders is optional, and students will be required to pay a fee of $16.
Space for 11th and 12th graders is limited, and interested students are required to pay the registration fee by the District-Wide deadline of October 4th.
Payment can be made via credit card on Parent Access, or at the Cashiers office before school or during lunch.
We are ready for another year of FEAR FREE SAT and ACT Practice Tests with the Princeton Review. The Fear Free tests are a great way to get comfortable with the format and style of the SAT or ACT in a stress free environment. These practice tests are available for all students but Juniors and interested Sophomores are highly encouraged to attend.
Upcoming test dates:
SAT on Saturday September 30th
ACT on October 21st.
All tests are taken in the library from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and will give you the complete testing simulation.
